Description

NGC 2146:
Type: SBab active barred spiral galaxy
Constellation: Camelopardalis
Distance: 70 million ly
Diameter: 80000 ly
Special feature: the arm of NGC2146 has been bent 45 degrees by a close encounter with a smaller galaxy NGC 2146a. This close encounter is credited with the relatively high star formation rates that qualify NGC 2146 as a starburst galaxy.
